Palm Tree Door Knocker

A very stylish piece that seems to be missing from just about all homes today is a door knocker. The doorbell has virtually killed any use of door knockers as functional items but they are still commonly used for decoration. The minimalist definition of a door knocker is a simple piece of metal shaped as a ring or bob which is fixed to a part of the door and can be knocked in order to alert the people in the house that someone is at their door. These often feature a simple hinge for the ring and a strike plate so that repetitive use doesn't do any damage to the door itself.

While a lot of people like door knockers which feature something like a classical demon face or a lion my favorite thing is to go with a much more tropical theme. I really like a palm tree door knocker. A lion head may be extremely decorative and classical but I don't think it sends the right message to your guests. It kind of sends the message that they should be worried when entering your house. The palm tree is calm and without a doubt inviting. It makes people think of vacation and being in beautiful tropical areas.

If you are looking to buy a tropical themed door knocker like a pineapple or palm tree then you might be a little bit out of luck as far as conventional shopping methods go. I have never seen anything like this at my local stores. Infact I rarely see door knockers at all in home improvement stores, it is considered a lot more modern to use a door bell(I feel this lacks taste). Your only option is to go looking online. Small online stores are probably the best to look at because they don't have to appeal to a wide audience like the big name brand stores(though these stores do have the ability to have a much bigger selection when online).

Before you buy your palm tree door knocker you need to take a few things into consideration. The main thing is how you are going to attach it to your door. A lot of doors today are made out of metal and you won't be able to screw them on like the manufacturer intended. If it is a wooden door then you need to make sure that it is of high enough quality to have something screwed into it. With most front doors you shouldn't have to worry, but it can happen sometimes.
